poppy: wide awake
One morning during my spring 2020 self-challenge to paint for thirty week days, these brilliant flowers caught my eye. They grow along the top of a rock wall my Grandfather built at the lake's edge. They seem to peek over the edge to smile at their reflections in the water. The sun was bouncing off rippled waves creating a dancing light. While my other paintings were more about peace and tranquility, I had to paint the poppies. So here is some joy added to the peace of the water-themed artworks. And technically there is water in the background.
Be sure to watch the video on the poppies.
Poppy: Wide Awake is part of a series of oil paintings I've created in spring 2020. I've entitled the series Quiet Waters.
Quiet Waters embodies selah, rest, and pause -- in soul-restoring places of peace - lakes, streams, rivers, and ocean.
This virus season has challenged our contentment, our convenience, and sometimes our peace. My artist response to these inner and outer tensions is to paint places of peace - places of quiet waters.
To me, the lake and stream imagery is soul-refreshing. And so I've painted them to "notice" them, to receive them well, and to share them.
