oaks in winter sun
I painted this watercolor on day five of fifty days of painting in spring 2018.
I walk most days at the nearby Chehalis Western Trail which mostly follows along a removed train line. But this section of trail verges from the straight path and winds between mature oak trees. I was inspired by the light, the shadows, and backlit, orange clinging leaves � all felt so warm to me in March. My reference photo is much too gray to express what it truly felt like to walk there at that moment. This painting is closer to the real experience.
