artful living summer 2012

onion blooms

Who knew onion blossoms would make an elegant bouquet? Normally something for the compost bin, these flowers caught my eye. Their subtle colors harmonized with the setting and lasted a long time. Pleasant.

From the tree to culinary art

Until this summer, I had never canned before. My Mom and Grandma canned for years. Grandma and her Mom canned all their garden produce and fruit to last all winter and spring until the next harvest. Now we just buy food at the store. But canning was all new for me.

Dad did the hot water bath step for me in the canner on latter batches. Teamwork helps.

Click on the photo or here to see a few of my kayak trip - with amazing canyon cliffs, watefalls, watercolor painting. It was a beautiful time.

artsy feedback from friends

In May, some close and supportive friends commented on my spring journal.

  • One found a figure in the berry juice on my french toast plate (see if you can find it - scroll to page bottom of this link).
  • Another, being more pensive suggested a likely difference between a "transcripted life" and real life.
  • Still another friend (yes, I have three friends) insists that I live a "charmed life." And perhaps I do. The life of a thankful and creative person may actually be charmed. Hmmm...

transcripted life

I enjoy questioning trends in human behavior and technology, so the idea of blogs being a sort of "transcripted life" caught my interest. At first, I wondered if my online presence is posed. But after a few emails discussing this with friends, we agreed my online presence is not posed and certainly not fabricated, but rather is simply selected. In other words, I don't make up false or posed scenarios. I live life and take photos along the way. I write about what is, selecting only better photos and (hopefully) pleasant subject matter. A side-effect is my life may seem "charmed" when viewed online. But Selection is necessary because not everything I do is newsworthy (although some facebook users love to share everything). I do try to find beauty and joy in the simplest aspects of living. But I don't write much about laundry or taxes. I'll try to get laundry and taxes into my creative living section somehow. Wait for it.

And sometimes friends and family take the photos...like the one of me above relaxing in Sun River, taken by my bro-in-law Randy.

rhubarb

What surpring rhubarb fortune; we've an abudant crop this year, with enough to share and more to freeze for later. Is rhubarb "artful?" Certainly, when creative with it's culinary (art) uses. See more story and photos...
