new year's day paddle 2017
tradition
Monday, January second was the official "day off" for the New Year, and a great day for fishing and paddling. The coldest day of the year (so far), the sun shone brightly to warm us on a partly frozen Offut Lake.
The color saturation in these photos is not retouched.
Dad fishing from the dock.
I was joined by close friends who also live on the lake. We decided a paddle is a better New Year's tradition than a polar bear swim.
Two river otters were curious, peering from the neighbor's dock (one in photo).
Mount Rainier over Offut Lake
beauty abounds
Here are a few more pictures of winter here in the lakeside studio.
Douglas fir cones near my entryway
My variegated geranium in festive Christmas red (indoors of course).
Echevaria symetry--with that fine, red outline.
Grandma's Christmas cactus faithfully blooming right in season
Merganzers just above a snow topped deck railing (out of focus foreground).
I reference photos (reality) when drawing, to get my tree forms believable (more correct). This artwork will be a large wall-hung silk. Click the photo or here to see more photos...
Christmas Rose - "Jacob" blooms right through frost and snow.
This is a may flower blooming indoors at Christmas. Festive.
Hardy verbena is outlined with frost.
